10-Day Weismann Peak Expedition

This 10-day Rwenzori expedition is built around a summit attempt on Weismann Peak (4,620 m) — a demanding high-altitude trek on the iconic Central Circuit, with a non-technical summit goal for strong trekkers. Expect rainforest trails, bamboo zones, heather forests, alpine bogs and dramatic high-mountain valleys, plus the unforgettable Kitandara Lakes area, all supported by an experienced local guide team and porter logistics. The route is paced to help you acclimatise, with safety-first planning and flexibility depending on mountain conditions.

Briefing and registration at Nyakalengija (1,646 m). Trek through Bakonzo farmlands into the forest zone, following the Mubuku River and crossing the Mahoma River, then climb to Nyabitaba Hut (2,652 m).
Cross the Kurt Shaffer Bridge and climb into the bamboo zone. Enter the heather zone with giant lobelias and groundsels, then continue through boggy sections along the Bujuku River to John Matte Hut (3,414 m).

Climb through moss-draped vegetation to Scott Elliot Pass (4,372 m) with views of glaciers and surrounding peaks, then descend to Upper/Lower Kitandara Lakes and reach Kitandara Hut.
Early start for Weismann Peak. Trek along the shores of Lake Kitandara, then climb steeply past Bigata Lake to the summit. In clear conditions, enjoy views of major Rwenzori peaks. This is described as a non-technical peak. Return to Kitandara for lunch and rest.
Steep ascent along Mount Baker’s southern side to Freshfield Pass (4,282 m) with views toward Congo and Mount Stanley. Descend via boggy/slippery sections to Bujongolo Rock Shelter, then continue to Guy Yeoman Hut.
